Scheduling your Session

I aim to shoot through golden hour for majority of my shoots. It’s that warm, sunshiny time just before the sun sets where the light is low and casts soft shadows.

If you have young ones that need a nap, making sure they get one before hand is a big help towards a happy attitude for photos. If they tend to get a little hangry before dinner too, make sure to bring a snack along, plus treats always work as a great bribe! Just try to avoid anything that will get stuck in their teeth, or smeared across their cute faces.

When booking your session, we will chat about what you are looking for in your session, check sunset times for your location, and plan the best time to meet for your shoot.

What to Wear

My best advice? Be you! These photos are about reflecting the best of you and should reflect your style. But here are a few suggestions that can help!

  • Avoid clothing with large logos or wording as it can be distracting. Go for texture instead like something knit or with a patterned weave.

  • Try to coordinate colors, not match. Mix patterns and solids amongst your family members to create a dynamic look.

  • Aim for more neutral tones over neons. They tend to reflect in the light and leave strange colors on your face.

  • Dress in layers. Adding a jacket or cute hat is an easy way to quickly change up your look without having to entirely change your outfit.

Where to Go

If you’ve got younger kiddos, picking a place where they can run and play is the way to go. It helps them get their extra energy out and more comfortable with the strange lady following them with a camera. Plus, playtime makes for great shots with your kids!

Look for locations with a diverse area for backdrops, like somewhere with a walk through the woods to a lakeside trail. Room to walk around is great, but avoid anything with too much of a hike (unless that is your family’s jam!) so nobody gets too hot and tired for photos.

In need of suggestions? Just ask me! I know plenty of great places across the state and we can find just the right fit for you.
